Cost Effective Organic Acid Test
Assessment Of Cellular Health.
Metabolic profiling is the analysis of organic acids in urine. Measuring organic acids from a collected morning urine sample can create a unique profile or 'fingerprint' of your body's biochemistry. It serves as a reflection of how well your body is obtaining and utilizing the nutrients gained from your diet. From a nutritional standpoint, organic acid testing is a way to assess for nutrient imbalances of vitamins, minerals and other cofactors. By identifying these imbalances your doctor can create a customized and targeted approach to support your unique biochemical needs.
What are Organic Acids?
organic acids are intermediates and end products of metabolism derived from the
metabolic conversion of dietary
proteins, fats, and carbohydrates,
in addition to compounds of bacterial
origin. Metabolism involves the many processes needed to support a healthy body; defend against infection, repair from injury, adapt to stress, eliminate waste products and produce energy for the growth and maintenance of our vital organs. Virtually all of these processes require vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients to function optimally. But, when there is a potential problem due to a deficit or imbalance, patterns of organic acids reveal in the urine can serve to red flag these problem areas to your doctor.
US BioTek Laboratories 'Comprehensive Urinary Metabolic Profile measures 36 Organic Acid Markers Of:
- Cellular Respiration
- Fatty Acid & Amino Acid Metabolism
- Neurotransmitter Metabolism for proper brain function
- Detoxification and Intestinal Health
Why Use Organic Acid Testing?
Poor digestion and assimilation of out daily foods, exposure to environmental toxins, oxidative stress from free radicals, drug effects, or an inherent special metabolic demand, can create deficits or imbalances in essential nutrients that, left unchecked, may put one at a greater risk for disease over time. Organic acid testing can evaluate your need for all B-vitamins, key antioxidants, minerals and other nutrients that may be falling short from your current diet and lifestyle habits.
Chronic disease can be difficult to assess as many have a slow or insidious beginnings often with vague and nonspecific symptoms; fatigue, muscle weakness or pain, achy joints, difficulty focusing on tasks or retaining information, bowel irregularities, weight gain, depression, anxiety and sleep abnormalities.
Early Warning Signs That Suggest Nutrient Insufficiencies:
- Memory loss
- Mood changes (depression, anger, agitation, anxiety, etc.)
- Sleep abnormalities
- Problems maintaining steady blood sugar (heart palpitations, shakiness, sweating, nausea, etc.)
- Weight gain
- History of cardiovascular disease risk
The goal of organic acid testing is to identify your unique nutrient demands for a targeted intervention.
This approach can address many of these early warning signs head-on before chronic illness sets in. As part of a comprehensive diet and lifestyle plan, organic acid testing may help address the risks of cardiovascular disease, obesity, diabetes and other chronic health afflictions faced by many of us today.
How Is Organic Acid Testing Done?
A first morning mid-stream urine catch is all that's required. The urine sample is collected onto our proprietary absorbent strip, placed in a desiccant-containing zip-tight bag, and mailed to US Biotech Labs for analysis. Analysis is performed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Turnaround time of test results is 5-10 business days from receipt of specimen.
